Steel piers, driven past the part that moves

Standard concrete pressed piers are stacked cylinders that often come to rest inside that same active zone, so they can re-settle and drift right along with the clay. We don't use them in Leander. Instead we drive galvanized steel piers in connected sections, hydraulically, using the structure's own dead load as the reaction force, and we keep going until each pier reaches refusal on competent, load-bearing strata below the moving soil. Around here that can be anywhere from 10 to 25-plus feet, depending on how deep the active material runs on your particular lot.
