  • Stair-step cracks in the brick at outside corners and around windows, a sign one zone is dropping independently of another, not the whole house sinking together.
  • An interior door that binds or gaps at the top corner; a frame racks measurably before wall cracks ever become obvious.
  • Separation at the soffit-to-brick joint along one elevation but not the others, which points to that wall's bearing soil settling.
  • A floor that pitches toward one low corner, or feels bouncy over what used to be solid.

Why differential movement is the real culprit
