  • Keep irrigation heads 18 to 24 inches back from the perimeter beam so you're not soaking the soil that drives movement.
  • Water short and frequent rather than long and infrequent to avoid the saturate-then-dry swings that pull the clay apart.
  • In a hard drought, run a soaker hose evenly around the slab about 12 to 18 inches out to keep the perimeter from shrinking away.
  • Watch large trees within about 1.5 times their mature crown radius, their roots pull moisture and may warrant a root barrier.
  • Flag visible post-tension cable-end rust or pop-outs early so jacking points get planned away from cable paths.
