Depth is what stops the movement, but water management is what keeps it stopped. The standard we work to is at least a six-inch drop in finished grade over the first ten feet away from the structure. Taylor's flat lots often fall short of that, so regrading after pier work is a common part of the plan; our drainage and erosion-control crews handle that side.

Trees matter more than most homeowners expect. A mature live oak or pecan can draw soil moisture down past the active zone, pulling one side of the house with it. When stabilization is planned near a big tree, the right answer is usually root management, not removal. During drought, steady perimeter irrigation about eighteen inches off the foundation edge moderates the shrinkage and keeps the center and edges of a slab from fighting each other.

My floor feels higher in the middle of the house, is that the same fix?
Not necessarily. A slab that's higher in the center than at the edges is usually center heave, driven by moisture building up under the slab, rather than perimeter settlement. Those two failure modes call for different fixes, and the elevation survey tells them apart before we commit to a plan.
Do I have to move out while you're working?
No. Nearly every repair is done while you stay in the home. You'll hear equipment during the day, but crews work from the exterior and access points and tidy up before they leave.
How long does the work usually take?
Most Taylor homes are finished in one to three days on site. Larger or harder-to-reach foundations can run a little longer, and your written plan gives a realistic day count up front.
There's a big pecan tree right next to the settled corner. Does it have to come down?
