Both look the same to a homeowner: sticking doors, separating trim, diagonal cracks from a window corner. But the fix isn't interchangeable, and telling them apart takes a deflection map of the footprint. We survey the full slab to ±0.01 in. (1/64 in.) before the plan is written.
On terraced lots there's a third factor: a failing retaining wall upslope can redirect water or push lateral soil pressure onto the house foundation. We evaluate both together, otherwise you fix the slab while the real driver keeps working.
Signs your Lakeway slab is moving
On a sloped lot the distress almost always shows up downhill first. The patterns we see most:

Steel matters here for two reasons: the galvanizing handles long-term corrosion in an intermittently wet subsurface, and the hydraulic method avoids the heave risk of displacement piles on tight lots where a neighbor's structure or retaining wall sits close by. Pressed-concrete and hybrid piers tend to stop inside the moving zone, which is why we don't use them for foundation repair in Lakeway.
Piering stabilizes; it doesn't manage water. Because moisture cycling drives so much of the movement, we pair the repair with drainage corrections where the survey calls for them, so the lifted corner isn't fed the saturation that dropped it.
