Pressed-concrete piers are the common shortcut, and on Blackland clay they're the common failure. They're stacked cylinders that frequently stop inside the active zone, the very soil that's moving. When the clay swells, it can carry those segments upward and drift them out of plumb, reintroducing the instability they were supposed to end. Reaching depth is what holds, and a driven steel system gets there.

Two details specific to Hutto's housing stock matter before any pier goes in. Many newer homes here are post-tension slabs, so tendon locations have to be confirmed from the drawings or traced on site, drilling a live cable is an expensive mistake. And pier spacing is calculated to the load each bracket carries, because under-piering leaves stress concentrations that can crack the concrete even after a clean lift.
